Johnny Munkhammar

Born 1974 Hultsfred, Southern Sweden, by parents who looked like they could have been found at the rock music festival that later was to be arranged in the community. Grew up in Visby, Gotland. Joined the Royal Navy and became a Sergeant, stationed at Berga, Stockholm. This was followed by studies at Uppsala University.

Several summers spent as an Editorial Writer at Gotlands Tidningar and Nerikes Allehanda, often in a more free-market direction than the normal policy of the newspapers. Was an intense writer and debater for JA till Europa prior the Swedish EU-membership election.

Board member of the Swedish Liberal Youth Society 1996-99, working in the wing of classic liberalism. Candidate for the Liberal Party in the elections to the Swedish Parliament and the European Parliament during the 1990's.

Gathered analysis, wrote speeches and articles for the former Chief Economist – and former Minister of Finance – Anne Wibble at the Federation of Swedish Industries. Worked for the Brussel office for six months. Work as a consultant for Gullers Group followed with responsibility for lobbying and opinion making for national and international clients.

Senior Advisor at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise for three years. Worked on economic and political analysis, writing and speaking. After that, work in the Department of Intelligence and Trends at the Confederation followed.

Author of three previous books on economic policy: "Människorna, marken och makten" (Timbro), half of "Inför euron! Behåll kronan!" (Pocky) and "Sagan om välfärdens återkomst" (Hjalmarson & Högberg).

Published over 500 debate articles, op-eds and columns in national and international daily-, weekly- and monthly magazines. Author of numerous papers on economic growth, employment, EU, rhetorics and conflict solving.

Role Models: Ayn Rand, Anne Wibble and Margaret Thatcher. And Adam Smith, Frédéric Bastiat, Winston Churchill. Reads quite a lot of literature on economics and history, and of course The Economist. But also PG Woodhouse, Sherlock Holmes, Tintin and John Grisham.

Has given countless speeches and talks and participated in at least as many debates.

Participates in marathon, enjoys to bike and swim. Gladly hosts dinners, and keenly tries on new flavours of Whisky and singing karaoke. Likes 70's Elvis, British pop and Ulf Lundell.

Engaged to Linda, becoming father in December.
